Flapper Marionettes

As puppeteer and doll both I'm not big on musicals, but also don't shirk them. I'm the sort who's seen a few, have enjoyed parts of them, and have at rare times felt a deep impact from their stories. Chicago is not one of the ones I'd particularly remembered, so when I watched the 2002 film version with Catherine Zeta Jones and Renée Zellweger today it was only my second viewing, and a casual one at that. I was reminded that Chicago is a sexy number to be sure. Once I got over a scary, self-imagined likeness between Velma Kelly and my Soph (right), I had a wonderful audio/visual treat smacked right back at me. "Of course! This has a marionette number!"

We Both Reached for the Gun, in which superstar lawyer Billy Flynn holds a press conference with Roxie Hart as his client. She has been arrested rightfully for homicide and has employed this slick-talking lawyer to build her profile and earn sympathy amongst the public. Cue a wonderful visual analogy with Roxie a ventriloquist's dummy and Chicago's press as puppets on strings:

... and just to top things off, Roxie mania sparks off merchandising like this:

Unless you mean *I* am in the musical! *blushes*

Stay AWAY from bright lights. Head as far away from Broadway and Vegas as you can get. Run! They're onto you!

Oho, oho! I'll have to ask Soph to start speaking in a Welsh accent now; there's lovely. ;)
