The Vidal Channel

Please excuse me for making such a hefty diversion from my usual doll-related content, however one issue has been bugging me and I hope I can make some people's news feeds easier by fixing it.

My social networks are a mess. I recently tried to demonstrate this in my Tumblelog and the results are indecipherable even to me. No matter how I try to trim it down, I am sharing too much across networks which cross-reference each other, and I fear that someone such as yourself might be turned off by such nonsense. There's actually not much work involved at my end, but hassle at the receiving end is something I certainly don't want. If anybody has some useful suggestions they can offer, do feel free to chip in!

At the moment, I share for three reasons and these have three audiences. You may not even be aware of this, so messy is my delivery:
  • Dolly content for my fellow digital dolls, and those interested in keeping them
Found images, links, articles, found videos, playlists, books
  • Steampunk and "raypunk" materials for Extropia, in my capacity as Director of Architecture
    Found images, links, articles
  • Fun and inspirational content for my friends, family and readers
Status, photos, articles, found images, links, videos, found videos, images, playlists, a wishlist ...but no books yet
Most of the time this tries to be faciltated by tags which then have individual feeds attached, but when only about half of what I use has tags as a feature, what am I to do?

As is typical for my friends and colleagues, I have 'aggregated' presence on the following 'sites:

Avatars United : : Blogger widgets : : Facebook : : Friendfeed : : Ning fora : : Tumblr

By the by, you are of course invited to subscribe to my Tumblelog and my blogs should you wish, but I do not accept friend requests from strangers yet on A.U., Ning communities or Facebook.

... and as anyone who follows me on these services will know, I have no sense of quality control about what goes on there. By that I mean that each service gets an odd dose of Extropia-related media and some dolliness mixed in with the usual guff which just happens to interest me. I've considered taking service like Friendfeed and Tumblr and dedicating each to one particular audience, but I have no idea what people would actually like. That's where you come in, really.

What takes your fancy? What're you actually using to see me? Does one 'channel' look more tempting than the others?

Vids, Vids, Vids! You are thinking too XXIst-century. :) We devoted fans aren't following you because we are interested in Topic X, we are following you because you are interesting, and we are interested in stuff that you are interested in. We are not coming to you demanding or expecting information about some specific thing, we are placing ourselves into your hands, trusting that you will carry us to interesting, and maybe completely unexpected, places.

Also we like looking at pictures of you, because you are so cute. :)

I subscribe to (um) one or more of your weblogs (I forget the details) in Google Reader. I will be pursuing some of the other links you've given in this post, to see if there's more of you I can subscribe to. I'm much more interested in more Vidal than in less mess...

Aww, thank you Dale. I probably am overthinking things, but I do also like to be responsible about my work, and it is reassuring to think that complete strangers might be able to get at some nice shared links to do with Extropian design, rather than having to sit through cooing, dolly media. I don't want to make things too stale either, though.

Sorting through all this has helped me realise where things may be getting double-posted (you can have too much Vidal), but also where things have been missing. Hopefully that'll make both worlds happy, with the added bonus of having put more links out there for folks like yourself to see. :)
